Project Structure

The ReCAP project was organised into a series of work packages spanning research, development, integration, and dissemination activities. The consortium — led by NMR and comprising Tools On Air, Nablet, and Joanneum Research — collaborated to deliver an automatic content analysis platform for metadata-driven media workflows.

The work plan of the ReCAP project was carefully structured to address the full lifecycle of developing an automatic content analysis platform. Beginning with foundational research into media analysis algorithms, the early work packages focused on understanding the technical challenges posed by heterogeneous content sources and diverse production environments. This groundwork ensured that subsequent development phases could build upon robust, validated methods for extracting meaningful metadata from audiovisual material. By coordinating closely across partner institutions, the project established a clear pathway from theoretical innovation to practical, scalable solutions tailored for the media industry.

A central pillar of the work plan involved the integration of multiple analysis services into a unified, flexible platform. Rather than creating isolated tools, the consortium designed workflows that allowed different content analysis components to communicate and share data seamlessly. This systems-level approach addressed the real-world need for metadata enrichment pipelines that could adapt to various media formats, from broadcast archives to mobile-originated content. Rigorous testing and iterative refinement ensured that the integrated platform maintained high performance and reliability, meeting the quality assurance standards expected by professional broadcast and media companies.

Dissemination and demonstration activities formed a critical thread throughout the project timeline. The work plan allocated dedicated efforts to showcasing the platform's capabilities to potential users across the creative industries, including broadcasters, post-production houses, and content owners. Through workshops, pilot deployments, and collaborative evaluations, the consortium gathered valuable feedback that fed back into technical improvements. This two-way exchange between developers and end users helped ensure that the resulting services were not only technologically advanced but also genuinely useful for everyday media production and asset management workflows.

The later stages of the work plan concentrated on validation, optimisation, and preparing the platform for market uptake. Partners refined the cost-effectiveness and scalability of the services, addressing the commercial challenges of deploying automatic analysis in real-world production settings. Emphasis was placed on ensuring compatibility with existing media asset management systems and playout environments. By documenting best practices and defining clear integration pathways, the consortium laid the groundwork for sustainable adoption of the ReCAP platform beyond the project's funding period, contributing to the broader evolution of data-driven media workflows across Europe.
